Asheville ‘Idol’ contestant wins praise, continues on
(Citzen-Times) Caleb Johnson’s “American Idol” journey will continue for at least another week. The Asheville rock singer was given a thumbs up by “Idol” viewers, who cast enough votes for him to remain on the Fox TV talent show. Altogether, more than 70 million votes were tallied this week. Johnson will return Wednesday for another live performance and more voting. This week, asked to sing something reflecting his love of home, Johnson reached way back with a hot performance of “Working Man.”He finished the 1974 anthem by Canadian rock trio Rush with a theatrical flourish, throwing himself on the “Idol” stage. Once again, the media and online community lit up with mostly positive comments. The web site AmericanIdolNet.com said that Johnson was “firmly in the lead” and that Las Vegas odds keepers gave him a 9-1 shot at winning the singing competition.
