Snow, damaging ice expected in Asheville area

(Asheville Citizen-Times) The mountains likely will get a mixed bag of frozen precipitation that could make driving treacherous Tuesday and Wednesday as a moisture-rich system from the south collides with arctic air.Sleet and freezing rain are possible tonight and Tuesday morning, National Weather Service meteorologist James Oh said. Precipitation should change to all rain by noon Tuesday but likely will change back to sleet and snow overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday. Some areas could see up to a quarter of an inch of ice possible. That much ice could bring down trees and power lines, according to the Weather Service.
